Treatment against the first generation of Fall Webworm has been finished in Western Georgia
NFA has finished treatment against the first generation of fall webworm in Western Georgia. 18967ha of effected land were treated in high dissemination areas.
Treatment was carried out using special spreading machines in the regions of Samegrelo, Guria and Adjara. 4340ha were treated in Samegrelo, 6200ha in Guria and 1704ha in Adjara.
In order to carry out complex treatment NFA has granted medicine to the regional municipalities to be distributed among population to allow them treat the areas independently.
An emergency headquarters was established in Poti, which was organizing and coordinating the treatment against pest. The functioning of the headquarters will be resumed before the treatment of the second generation of the Fall Webworm.
Fall Webworm is dangerous pest which is spread in a number of areas of Western Georgia. Due to the climatic conditions of Georgia the pest produces two generations. The treatment against the first generation of the pest has already been finished and the treatment against the second generation will be resumed from the beginning of August. 38300ha of land are planned to be treated this year.
