NFA is carrying out preventive measures against Fall Webworm in Ganmukhuri and Anaklia.

NFA is carrying out chemical treatment against Fall Webworm, a dangerous quarantine pest.The activity was attended by the acting Head of Agency Mr.Tornike  Mgaloblishvili and Head of Phytosanitary Department Mr. Zurab Lipartia.

Moreover, single cases of the pest have been already detected in several places. Fall webworm, currently is in bagworm phase.  In resort areas the chemical treatment is carried out by NFA specialists using The Cold Spraying method.

According to specialists Fall Webworm starts to disseminate in the beginning of June. NFA Emergency Headquarters which will be coordinating and planning Fall Webworm treatment in Western Georgia was opened last week in Poti and is ready to react.

Emergency Headquarters will ensure coordination and planning of Fall Webworm treatment in Samegrelo, Guria, Ajdara and Imereti Regions.

Special brochures will be published for public awareness campaign organized by the Headquarters in order to inform the population. Involving the population in this campaign is very important; cutting the nets infected by the pests at earlier stage from the trees significantly reduces their further spread.  

NFA conducts the treatment against the Fall Webworm every year. In the year of 2012 is planned chemical treatment of 38000 Ha in highly affected areas. Along with it the Municipalities will be given special chemicals to be distributed among the rural population.
