Anti-Anthrax mandatory vaccination in Bolnisi

An anthrax case was detected in Bolnisi Municipality village of Tandzia, three people were infected. An infected animal was slaughtered by a citizen without veterinary surveillance bypassing the slaughterhouse. Part of the meat was distributed among relatives and part was probably sold. Above mentioned case is being researched by specialists.

Regarding meat traders protest in Gurjaani, demanding to have the right to slaughter animals and sell the meat bypassing slaughterhouses, National Food Agency declares, that it will not allow a certain group of people to trade on the market by risking public health. In order to provide society with safe meat products it is necessary that animals should be slaughtered in a slaughterhouse under the surveillance of a veterinary doctor, who issues appropriate document (Form N2) confirming that the food is safe for human consumumption.

In the frame of free vaccination state program NFA has started prophylactic vaccination against especially hazardous Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD). Immunization will be carried out on 922,330 heads of cattle country-wide. Mr. David Koberidze, head of NFA, has attended vaccination in village Tserovani, Mtskheta Municipality.
